How to Love Your Home Right Now Without Spending a Dime
It can be a challenge to love your home 24/7. We all have projects we want to do, rooms that need organizing and furniture we’d love to buy. But reality is that most of us can’t do those things right away! At this time in our lives when most of us are spending time at home more than ever and aren’t shopping for non-essential items, this post may really resonate with you and hopefully be helpful! I have been getting a lot better about loving my home in every state it’s in and enjoying the process. So, today I’m going to share some of my tips that help me love my home and may help you!
Organize
Do you have a room, closet or pantry that you just cringe every time you have to face it? Why not tackle it? Make it less overwhelming by setting realistic goals, i.e. for a room maybe it would look like “Monday: sort through loose papers, Saturday: go through top shelf of closet, Sunday: sort through rest of closet, etc.”
The less cringe-worthy rooms we have in our home, the more we are able to feel at peace.
Deep clean
Anyone else feel so much joy after a deep clean of the home?! I just feel like I have room to think, everything smells great and there is just space physically and mentally.
Here’s a link to my weekly cleaning routine which I find really helps me keep the entire home clean without getting overwhelmed! It also includes a free weekly cleaning rhythm chart.
Bring in some foraged flowers/greenery
This works any time of the year! I love bringing in branches in the winter and early spring, wildflowers in the summer and drying out late summer blooms to display in the early fall.
Scent and sound to create a mood
Diffuse your favorite oils, spray a homemade room spray, light a candle, open some windows or make a stovetop potpourri. Scent can literally change your mood and create a personal feeling in the home, as can sound. Personalized music list and a signature scent can make your home feel unique—everyone will know your signature scent and sound when they walk into your home!
Shop your own home/rearrange decor and furniture
Do you have decor items stored away? Try bringing them out and swapping with something or adding them into your current decor. Do you have different throw pillow covers you can change up? Can a piece of furniture be better utilized somewhere else? Maybe a chair forgotten in a corner of a room can get more use as extra seating in the family room, etc.
Make your own artwork
We love creating our own artwork/decor! It’s a fun way to add a personalized touch to the home. Paint a canvas, create that DIY project you always wanted to do, frame a favorite photograph, display collected nature items, etc. Try and make something with items you already have at home. It will be hard not to smile every time you look at your homemade creations! Here’s a link to some of our DIY projects.
Gratitude
Sometimes it’s easy to forget all the reasons to love our home and what drew us toward it in the first place. Make a list of all the things you love about your home in its current condition.
Stop comparing and instead be inspired
Do what you can in this season of life and find creative ways to accomplish those tasks to make it possible. Create inspiration boards and and make realistic goals to make that inspiration happen.
I’d say #7 on this list is most important! But it’s okay and even positive to have goals and inspiration for your home, as long as you don’t beat yourself up over it.
