Today I’m sharing some of my go-to houseplant tools! I’ve learned a lot about keeping houseplants happy and healthy through the years, and am learning more each day :) So I wanted to share some tools/tips with you guys! I’ve linked to the products I use below.
Watering cans
I like having 2 sizes— one smallish and one larger and a special watering can for Anchor (he uses this one). The smaller is good for our little houseplants and the larger watering can is helpful for plants like my bird of paradise so I don’t have to fill it up 4x.
This is helpful for plants that are from a humid climate. Misting their leaves can help create the moisture they need to thrive. It’s also good for humidity-loving terrariums. I mostly use mine to spritz and clean leaves of my larger plants.
Microfiber Cloth
Great for wiping down plant leaves to keep them dust-free to allow sunshine absorbtion. Use in conjunction with mister.
This is probably my top recommendation for plant tools! Seriously life-changing! Its hard to get watering just right, and overwatering can lead to pests and disease, while under watering can lead to shriveled up leaves and death of the plant. Sometimes we think the plant is dry because we feel the top two inches, but down at the roots may still be very wet and watering it further can lead to problems. The water meter can go way down, measuring the dampness of the soil. I always test the soil before I water now!
Pipette
These are super helpful to water succulents as they don’t need much and it allows you to get right to the underside of the plant, as succulents don’t like wet leaves.
I use this for bigger stems that need to get trimmed or for trimming fresh cut flowers.
Snips
These are great for cleaning up small plant leaf dead ends, snipping herbs off or deadheading flowers.
I like having circular plastic saucers in varying sizes around. This is how I place plants into baskets and non-planters. The saucer catches the water and protects the holder and floor. I am able to reuse them as they stay in pretty good condition for me.
I haven’t had to use this much, but when I start to get gnats or other pests in the soil of my plant I spray it with this and it does the trick!
I add this to my plants during the growing season or when they aren’t doing well and need a little boost.
These are super helpful for combatting gnat problems! Even if you notice a few flying around your home, stick these in your houseplants and you may be surprised to see that’s where they’re coming from!
