How to Create a Non-Holiday Winter Mantle and a DIY Fern Garland
There is a long winter still ahead of us! After taking down the Christmas decor we were just like, "okay, this is too bare!". We wanted a wintery look minus the holiday theme, so using some things we already had and treating ourselves to some additional items from Terrain, we created this pretty scene. I love how dainty, clean and fresh it is! I also think the garland adds such a nice touch. I'm showing you how to make it below, along with some ideas for transforming your own mantle!
Candles
There is something so cozy about candles on a winter evening. It's always a pretty addition to the mantle in my opinion. Try mixing styles and holders for an organic look. All of these candle holders are from Terrain or are vintage, but search your local shops and thrift stores for unique finds.
Natural elements
Head outside and search for some seasonal nature items. Pine cones and birch are great additions as are small branches arranged in a vase.
Garland
Wood beads, white pom poms or natural garlands are all great options.
DIY fern garland:
Gather:
-preserved fern bunch (I got mine here)
-illusion cord
-tape
-scissors
Begin layering the ferns on top of one another, tying them together with the illusion cord. The closer together you put them, the fuller your garland will look. It all depends on the look you're going for; I went somewhere in between. Do this until you have the length you want. Trim the excess illusion cord.
Tie illusion cord on each end leaving a bit extra to secure with tape on the mantle.
