Although we put together our closet a while ago, I never thought much about sharing it as it’s not something I thought was worthy of being shared. But the more I realized the functionality and simplicity of what we did in here, I thought some of our readers might enjoy hearing about what we did. There was no renovation work and we don’t have any fancy built-ins in here, but the small, easy to do changes we made in here really transformed our closet into a space we enjoy going into!
Here’s how it looked before:
What we did:
A dresser that would fit between our hanging clothes. We are able to put things like sweaters and jeans in here, hidden away.
Two small shoe shelves on either side of the dresser. Instead of lining or just throwing our shoes onto the floor and making a mess, they are neatly put on the shelves so we can easily see them.
Storage baskets along the top shelf. I think this aspect really made the rack look much more purposeful and neater, as well as being super functional. We store our bathing suits, scarves, etc. in these.
A fun area rug. This really made the space feel more like a room than a closet I just want to run in and out of. I enjoy having a cozy, warm surface under my feet when picking out my clothes for the day :)
Decor: one of the paintings I did, a faux plant (because a real one wouldn’t survive in here), a wooden bowl and a vase. Adding decor is another element that makes this space feel like a thoughtful room rather than just a closet.
All of these elements really help us to keep this space organized, enjoy our time in there and make us actually want to keep the space clean.
If your closet is not a walk-in, there are still things you can do to make it special and more organized. You can get an entire closet system or something less involved like nice baskets or totes like the ones we have above.
