A coffee table is a great way to show some of your personality and style, but it can be tricky to do this if it's on the smaller side! Today I'm sharing how we style our small coffee table. We chose a small coffee table for this space because Anchor plays on the area rug and we wanted to give him optimal space to do that. We put two end tables next to our couches to make up for lost drink space.

1. Keep it simple + practical

Dealing with less space means we need to make the most of what we do have. Don't overcrowd it or the style message will be lost, and make sure what does go on your coffee table makes sense.

2. Start with a good coffee table book or magazine as your foundation

Choose a coffee table book that makes sense with the size of your table. Make sure it's something that reflects your interests and shows off your personality/style. Magazines work too, but opt for high-quality, heavy paper-weight ones. Switch up the book/magazine with the change of seasons or mood.

3. Add a basket, tray or bowl

Choose a basket that mimicks the shape of your coffee table. This is a good opportunity to choose something vintage! The basket adds texture, style and practicality. House coasters and the remote in there.

4. A natural touch

Add a natural touch that is also personal and meaningful. A small bud vase with a single stem you can pick from your yard and keep it fresh is a great option. Anchor picked me this one, so it's extra special! Other options include seashells in a jar, a beeswax candle (if you don't have little ones that can knock it over!), a geode or small plant/succulent.

So, a good formula is: special coffee table book + vintage basket/tray + coasters + meaningful, natural element that adds texture and mood.
