Playroom Progress Part 2
We are in the home stretch with the playroom!! All the structural pieces are pretty much done—now the fun part: decorating! In today’s post we’re sharing all the details on part 2 of our playroom renovation. If you missed part one where we talk about the floors, windows, paint and more, you can catch up here.
Desk
I am so happy with how this waterfall desk turned out, especially since we had our reservations during the process! We decided to build the structure out of plywood and red oak, then veneer it in walnut. In order to make the veneer look custom and not repetitive, Dan cut it into strips and mixed the order of them. Here’s a link to the walnut veneer we used.
Since the desk is flush with the wall, we needed a way to get wires to the outlet without coming around the front, which is messy looking and less functional, so Dan drilled two holes in the desk in both back corners and we added these pretty bronze desk grommets.
Window Shade
We decided to have the shade just cover the window and not the transom so that the transom can always allow light in. We got our custom shade from SelectBlinds. It’s the classic roman shade in “sand”.
Door
I had a vision for this style of door for the playroom, more-so for the look from the other side which is the kitchen. It’s nice having a way to close off the room without compromising on light and it will be especially nice to be able to see the kids while I’m in the kitchen.
It’s a 6-lite, solid mahogany door which we sealed with a clear coat of polyurothane. Here’s the link for the door.
Pendant Light
If you watched my instagram stories, you heard the story about this light! I really wanted a paper lantern style hardwired light for this space but the full globe shape would have been too big for these 9’ ceilings. I searched for a half dome shape one but couldn’t find any. Then I went onto Crate and Barrel to purchase another light I had in mind for this room and they had new lighting in and guess what kind of light they had?! You guessed it! It was meant to be :) I love how the texture, material and shape of this light play off the hard lines of the room. It’s playful yet sophisticated. Here’s a link to the light.
Look out for the final playroom reveal soon and thanks as always for following along with our progress!
