Our Privacy Hedge Reveal
Iโm so excited to share our privacy hedge project with you all today! This was one of those things where we were just talking about how it would be nice to have more privacy in the side yard and the next thing you know weโre planting bushes and building a gate ๐
We purchased 4ft privet and spaced them about 2ft apart. They can grow up to 12ft tall and 6ft wide, so this will really fill out. It looks bare right now but they will grow together and really create a full hedge. We will trim them to stay about 6ft tall. Privet are very prunable, keep the same look throughout the year, grow quickly and fill out wide and tall. They were the most recommended to us for our needs when we visited the nurseries.
We went through many changes with the gate! We didnโt love how our original plan was turning out so changed it up half-way through. Iโm so happy with how it turned out!
I envisioned a black gate and had to really sell Dan on it. I thought white would be too stark between the dark hedges and was looking for it to blend it. We also tested dark stain but decided on the black and we are very pleased with it! It ties in nicely with the black fixtures we have on the house. The paint is Benjamin Moore Black Satin in Aura Exterior Flat.
Dan added ball finials to the top of the posts which give it a more upgraded and finished look. The pulls are from build.com. They are technically cabinet pulls but they work here! They are constructed of iron and are the perfect size.
