Spark Joy

I recommend reading this book first! I’m sure most of you have heard of Marie Kondo and maybe even have watched her Netflix special. She really has changed the way many people around the world look at tidying! I read her book about a year and half ago and I am still using many of the principles today. I hope to employ more of them in the near future, am still learning and also found ways to alter some of her suggestions to best fit my life and family.

This is a good book to organize and simplify your home before actually cleaning. When everything in your home has a place and is put in that place, calm settles upon the home and cleaning becomes much easier!

some highlights from the book:

  • I love her way of folding! It’s so much easier to keep drawers organized and see what you have.

  • the illustrations throughout the book are both adorable and helpful!

  • She teaches you how to organize by category. Even her organization is organized :)

  • It’s a beautiful way to get in touch with yourself and find out what truly brings you joy and get rid of things that don’t serve you or make your life more enjoyable.

  • I really like how at the end of the book, she gives a quick rundown of how to set up and organize each room.

  • This book may seem like it’s just about the act of tidying, but it really spills over into all aspects of our lives. I love the idea that when we have less clutter physically, it can lead to more space in our minds and lives leading to more happiness, better relationships and even success!

Clean My Space

This book is a great next step after Spark Joy, as its all about how to clean your home. This may not sound appealing, but it changed the way I look at cleaning, actually clean and the joy I get from both the act of cleaning and the results. This book really teaches us how to clean efficiently; how to create a cleaning routine that comes quickly and naturally so we spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying a beautiful home.

some highlights from the book:

  • she shares many wonderful homemade cleaners!

  • she shares a list of cleaning tools to have at the ready

  • I love how she shares how to both express clean and deep clean each room.

  • this book also has wonderful tips on how to clean things like the washer, oven, etc.

I haven’t always been this enthusiastic about cleaning, but having a clean home that feels fresh really makes me enjoy our space much more. And we’re all about loving your home to its fullest potential!

Have you read either of these books? If not, are they something you’d pick up to read?
