Custom Garage Exterior Project Reveal
We finished our garage exterior project and are SO happy with the result! It took longer than anticipated, but that's usually how these things go! Besides installing the actual garage doors, Dan did everything himself including building that gorgeous trellis from scratch!!
This was such a fun and challenging project for us as it is very different from what we have done before. I drew up the plans and Dan executed it better than I could have imagined. Part of the reason this project took longer was because in my original plan the top was paneled wood, but when we put it up we decided we didn't like it and wanted a clean, flat surface. So yes, we took it all down and started over haha. But I'm happy we did and didn't just settle!
By doing the trellis ourself we saved almost $2,000. I actually like it so much better than the one we were planning on buying. And we need to talk about these gorgeous barn lights from Barn Light Electric Company. You get to custom design it from the shade size to the gooseneck to the finish and more! They are then built by hand in Florida.
Read on below for all the changes we made! I will be sharing all the process photos plus the plans I drew up on my instagram stories soon.
Okay, so here is the before!
Some of the changed we made include:
Squaring out the corners of the garage
new garage doors
replacing old trim with azek
removing siding and replacing it with plywood for a clean space to house the lights and trellis
removing the middle floodlight and splitting the electric to house 2 barn lights over each door
building a custom trellis
Dan built the trellis out of cedar and everything (besides the actual doors) are painted in "snowfall white" by Benjamin Moore. The doors were installed by Bob & Ray Overhead Doors.
A special thanks to my dad for leading us in the right direction, helping when we needed it and referring us to the garage door installers who did an awesome job!
