Our Chandelier Refresh

Disclaimer: if you are not comfortable with electric do not do this DIY on your own. Hire an electrician or someone who has the tools and know-how to take down and put up lighting.

We were so happy the previous owners left us this chandelier, but we wanted a way to give it a bit of a freshening up and make it fit in more with our style. It looks like a different chandelier to me and all we needed was some spray paint and new bulbs!

We went with Rust-oleum metallic spray paint in "Champagne Bronze". I wanted the finish less shiny and the color more on the bronze side instead of gold. I really love the color!

As you can see the color is more of a shiny gold rather than a matte bronze, the bulbs are tapered (and some are out haha).

Once your chandelier is safely taken down, take it apart as much as you can so that when you paint it you are getting maximum coverage. As you can see we slipped off the candelabras so that we would be sure to get into all the nooks and crannies!

Spray all the pieces, give it some time to dry, and spray again. The next day look at it in different lighting and give another coat if needed. You will probably need to flip the chandelier over right-side-up to get any missed spots.

As for the round bulbs, we got those at home depot and I love how it gives it a bit of a modern look for this room. 

So, in the end, all you need is a fresh coat of paint (you can even play with fun, unexpected colors to make your chandelier the focal point of your room) and different shaped bulbs as well as different opacities such as fully opaque bulbs.

Let me know what you think! Do you think it's worth it to flip a chandelier or would you rather just buy a new one? Chandeliers can get so expensive (especially when you move in a new home and need several light fixtures), so I feel like this is a good alternative. Plus, it's always nice knowing you put some love and work into the things in your home :)
