A Cozy But Clean Slate After the Holidays | The First Step to an Organized Home

In continuing with my capsule home approach, I’m creating a blank slate after the holidays by clearing away all the holiday decor and being mindful about it. It’s the first step to getting the home organized and more minimal. Read below for some tips!

When I say “being mindful about it”, I’m referring to what and how I store those items away so I set myself up for stress free decorating next year and have less to store in the meantime. Here are some ways to accomplish this:

  1. Take down all of your holiday items and take stock of what you really want to store away for next year. Are any items broken? Toss them. Is there anything you don’t really love or see yourself putting out again next year? Donate it. Are there any faux trees or garland that you can replace with real, living trees and evergreens next year?

  2. Plan the amount of storage bins or storage space you want to use up for holiday decor. This way you give yourself

  3. Clear the holiday decor away fully. Put everything in their rightful crate and put the crate in it’s place in storage. Label the boxes so you can easily find what you need next holiday season.

Note: Keep/put out some winter touches like pinecones in a bowl or evergreen branches in a vase and candles flameless or real set a cozy mood. This way your home feels warm and inviting after you’ve stripped away all the holiday decor.
